Save the Hind Legs
Does your dog jump or hop a lot? It is actually a lot of strain on the hind legs, which could result in an injury in the ligaments or sometimes even in the tendons. You see a dog jumping at the kitchen counter hoping to reach something or jumping on you begging for some treats. We can discourage a dog from jumping or hopping by turning away and ignoring him. Or, proactively get your dog's attention on something else or call on the "Down" command right before you anticipate jumping or hopping.
Hard wood floor is hard on the hind legs, too. Rugs or modular carpet may be helpful especially in the area your dog tends to run around quickly.
Strengthen the Immune System
To sustain a healthy, strong immune system, 1) Core skeletal & muscular care, 2)a well-balanced diet and 3) mental health are essential. When all aspects are well balanced, the immune system works at its best to fight against diseases.
Check the Paws
Over-grown nails make it difficult to walk especially for a senior dog. This will prevent proper body allignment. Also, a dog with over-grown hair between paws will likely slip easily on a hard wood floor. Please make sure your dog can stand comfortably. Checking regularly how your dog walks and runs is a good idea as well.
